2002 Southwest Quadrant Road-trip Itinerary

This was the second of our US quadrant road trips. I also wanted to do a few state highpoints.

McCook, NE 660 11 Depart Minneapolis at 7 am. Kool-aid was invented in McCook. There is a Frank Lloyd Wright house in McCook.
09/01/02 Guymon, OK 511 11 Summited Kansas. Summited Oklahoma. Got flat tire.
09/02/02 Carlsbad, NM 418 8 Got flat fixed at a Walmart on Labor Day.
09/03/02 Carlsbad, NM 20 2 Went to Carlsbad Caverns. Walked down thru natural opening. Took additional inside tour.
09/04/02 Santa Fe, NM 286 6 Billboard coming into Roswell: "Have you ever met an honest Undertaker?" Saw the 'alien' at Roswell. Near Winslow, we saw the Great Crater, which is privately owned and operated. Santa Fe has many museums, with this sign: "For an enjoyable visit, please do not leave valuables in you car, even your trunk." I guess they don't want tourist business that bad.
09/05/02 Flagstaff, AZ 394 8 Heard trains all night long from the Best Western.
09/06/02 Page, AZ 247 5 Visited The Grand Canyon, South Rim. Toured Lake Powell Dam.
09/07/02 Page, AZ 20 2 Took Lake Powell boat ride and saw one of the great natural stone arches.
09/08/02 Ruby's Inn, UT 340 6 Toured Grand Canyon, North Rim.
09/09/02 Las Vegas, NV 386 7 Visited Bryce Canyon, Zions National Park, Utah Sand Dunes State Park. In Las Vegas, took a taxi downtown to see the 'Fremont Street Experience'. Worth the trip.
09/10/02 Las Vegas, NV 52 2 Visited and toured Hoover Dam. Saw the 'Blue Man Group'.
09/11/02 Grand Junction, CO 524 11 Drove in the rain.
09/12/02 Chadron, NE 614 12 Drove thru the Rockies. Summited Nebraska.
09/13/02 Home 667 11 Arrived in Minneapolis about 6 pm.
Totals 5139 102 Some side trips included.
